Hitachi repositions Trinium

(20 September 1999)

Hitachi Data Systems is about to reposition Trinium, reducing planned uniprocessor performance by 17% and 12-way performance by 22%.

This would leave the uniprocessor rating at 233 MIPS (still the most powerful available) and the 12-way complex at 202 MIPS.

Shipments have not yet begun (although they are imminent) so this news comes just in time for users to avoid the painful and protracted task of convincing their software suppliers of the validity of suddenly reduced MIPS or MSU values. Several users who have ordered 4-way systems will be taking 5-ways now rated at much the same performance.

A couple of minor features will also be disabled for the first month or so, because of some intermittent problems found in final testing.
